An octagonal stone reservoir and Mughal garden commissioned by Emperor Jahangir at the foothills of the Pir Panjal range.
Verinag is the source of the Jhelum river — the water rises from an octagonal Mughal tank with a colonnade around it, built by Emperor Jahangir in 1620. It is a peaceful garden site in Anantnag district, easy to combine with Achabal or Kokernag in a south Kashmir day loop.
The spring is constant year-round and the garden is maintained, though not as elaborately as the Srinagar Mughal gardens.
Getting there
80 km from Srinagar via NH-44 through Anantnag and Qazigund. About 2 hours by road.
