Tulian is a high-altitude lake above the tree line at 3,650m, reachable by a 5–6 hour trek from Pahalgam. The trail climbs steeply through pine forest into alpine meadows and then to the lake basin. The lake is frozen for much of the year and snow patches persist nearby through July.
It is above the main tourist circuit and sees far fewer visitors than Aru or Betaab — a proper mountain day.
Getting there
Trek from Pahalgam (16 km one way). Start early — ideally 6 am — to allow time to return before dark. A local guide is recommended for first-time visitors.
