The Shankaracharya temple (also called Jyeshteshvara) sits on Gopadri hill, 300 metres above Dal Lake, at an altitude of 1,100 metres. The view from the top — Dal Lake, the houseboats, the Boulevard, the Mughal gardens on the far shore, the Pir Panjal range behind — is one of the finest in Srinagar and worth the climb at any time of day.
