Do I need to book Gulmarg Gondola tickets in advance?
Yes, booking online well in advance via the official J&K Cable Car portal is strongly recommended. During peak snow season (Dec–Feb) and summer holidays (May–June), both Phase 1 (Kongdoori) and Phase 2 (Apharwat) tickets sell out weeks ahead.
Can outside or Srinagar taxis drive inside Gulmarg?
Srinagar taxis can drop guests at hotels in Gulmarg or at the main entry parking. However, for local sightseeing inside the bowl or trips in heavy snow, you will walk or hire registered local sledges and 4x4 vehicles.
Are snow chains needed between Tangmarg and Gulmarg in winter?
Yes. Between late December and March, police checkposts at Tangmarg require 4x4 vehicles or tire snow-chains to navigate the steep 13 km ascent on icy roads. Chains can be rented at Tangmarg.
Can beginners hire ski gear and instructors in Gulmarg?
Yes. Certified local ski instructors and government equipment stores near the beginner slopes provide ski sets, boots, jackets, and lessons by the day at regulated rates.
