Srinagar to Gulmarg by taxi: what to know
One way, round trip or overnight, what fares include, and winter tips for the Tangmarg road.

Gulmarg is about 50 km from Srinagar - roughly 1 hour 45 minutes by road, longer in snow. Most visitors go by taxi, either as a day trip or with a night in Gulmarg.
One way, round trip or overnight?
- Round trip (same day): the driver waits while you ride the Gondola and explore, then brings you back. Best if you're short on time.
- One way: if you're staying in Gulmarg. Book the return separately for the day you leave.
- Round trip with a night halt: the same vehicle stays with you. A night-halt charge covers the driver's stay.
What the fare usually includes
Each provider's fare on KashmirRide states whether tolls, parking and the driver's allowance are included. It does not include the Gondola ticket, ponies, sledges or local guides in Gulmarg - those are paid on the spot.
Which vehicle?
- Sedan (Dzire or similar): up to 4 people with light luggage.
- Innova / Innova Crysta: up to 6 with luggage; more comfortable on mountain roads.
- Tempo Traveller / Urbania: groups of 9–13.
Winter tips
From December to March, police may require snow chains beyond Tangmarg after fresh snowfall. Drivers carry them, and some providers charge for fitting. Start early - the road and the Gondola both get busy by late morning.
